Despacito was released by Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi in 2017, and quickly became the most streamed song within six months. This mix of reggaeton and pop music did not just draw attention back to the genre, but it also brought attention to Latin music generally. In Billboard's Top 100 in 2015 had two songs that were mostly Spanish language, while the year 2016 featured four. The popularity of Despacito was at its highest in 2017. In 2020 the year 2020, 41 mainly Spanish songs will make the top 100. Justin Bieber re-mixed Despacito with a Spanish-language version in 2017 shortly after which famous artists started working with reggaeton acts. Drake teamed with Bad Bunny to produce MIA (2018) as well as Madonna worked on Medellin along with Maluma (2019). In the year 2020, some Reggaeton musicians were complaining about the direction of the genre towards the mainstream. However, a younger generation like Rauw Alejandro was keen to continue the evolution. The genre often included elements of electronic dance music and other forms.
